Next Generation StarFabric® PCI Interface Card Supports Investments in Legacy PCI Devices
Brockton, MA, March 21, 2002 - New from Aurora Technologies, Inc., the PCI-SB StarFabric PCI Interface Card enables users to support next generation systems requirements while maintaining investments in legacy PCI devices. This interface card is ideal for demanding real-time applications, such as VoIP, that require maximum scalability, bandwidth, and reliability.
The PCI-SB interface card installs in any standard PCI slot including Aurora's new XP-SG series of PCI expansion chassis. The PCI 2.2 compliant interface card connects to any StarFabric enabled device via two shielded CAT5 cables with RJ-45 connectors. The interface card and any StarFabric enabled device can be placed up to five meters apart. The PCI-SB is compatible with 64 bit/66 MHz and 32bit/33 MHz bus speeds. Featuring two 2.5 Gbps, full duplex StarFabric serial links, the PCI-SB translates PCI traffic into serial frame format for transmission across the switch fabric or directly to any StarFabric enabled device.
"Demanding, real-time applications, such as streaming video and VoIP, require maximum scalability, bandwidth, and reliability," says Frank Fitzgerald, Director of Engineering at Aurora Technologies, Inc. "Aurora's new [StarFabric PCI Interface Card] removes the constraints of parallel bus architecture to deliver next generation connectivity."
The PCI-SB offers increased flexibility by functioning as either a bridge or a gateway. As a bridge, the interface card supports all legacy traffic with 100% compatibility with existing PCI software and hardware.
The PCI-SB currently is compatible with Microsoft® Windows® and Linux® operating systems.
