StarGen Launches the SG3010, a New StarFabric Bridge Chip Designed for Next-Generation Communication Applications
New Solution Built Upon StarGen's Collaboration with Agere in Switched Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) Interconnect Technology
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - January 14, 2002 - StarGen, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company, today announced the launch of the StarGen SG3010 TDM to StarFabric bridge, built on the company's collaboration with Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A) in switched time division multiplexing (TDM) interconnect technology. The device enables connection of TDM devices including DSPs, framers, and voice processors as well as the H.110 TDM bus directly to the StarFabric serial switch interconnect.
This highly scalable, high-capacity device is ideal for such next-generation applications as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) gateways, voice over broadband (VoB) systems, wireless base stations, and other high-density communications network equipment. It provides a level of system scaling unattainable with current standard off-the-shelf TDM components. The StarGen SG3010 maintains full H.110 TDM bus compatibility, and is applicable as a telecommunications backplane and chassis-to-chassis interconnect solution. It is also ideal for systems that demand high-availability.
The StarGen SG3010 functions as a bridge between the H.110 bus and the StarFabric switched interconnect, connecting up to 128 H.110 bus segments together. This translates to providing up to 128 times the voice processing capacity of today's typical standards-based H.110 products.
Additional features within the StarFabric SG3010 include a 4,096-connection, double-buffered, unified switch for switching time slots between the H.110 and local bus interfaces; simultaneous switching of all H.110 and local bus time slots over the StarFabric; local I/O streams operating at up to 16Mbits per second; and TDM broadcast capabilities.
"Communication equipment manufacturers who use the StarGen SG3010 solution can add scalability and high-speed uplink to their systems, while still preserving the investment in their existing circuit packs," said Tracy Richardson, co-founder and President of StarGen. "Reducing both electronics costs and time-to-market intervals, the SG3010 is ideally designed for those manufacturers who want to scale current systems to new levels of port density and performance. The SG3010 complements our currently shipping SG2010 StarFabric PCI bridge and SG1010 StarFabric Switch. Designers can now purchase the complete digital convergence communication silicon solution directly from StarGen for CompactPCI and other embedded platforms."
StarGen's StarFabric technology is a high-speed, point-to-point switched backplane and chassis-to-chassis interconnect solution. It provides scalability, high-availability, and true quality of service while maintaining 100% compatibility with existing hardware and software investments. StarFabric is an industry open technology, with royalty-free licensing available through membership in the StarFabric Trade Association (www.StarFabric.org).
StarFabric solution demonstrations will be shown at next week's Bus & Board Conference in Long Beach. The StarGen SG3010 will be made available later this year.
About StarGen
StarGen (www.StarGen.com) is a fabless semiconductor company that has developed a new switched interconnect technology for the communication and embedded industries. The technology benefits vendors of carrier and enterprise communication platforms for next generation voice, data, and video networks. Early adopters include those building open standards based access/edge equipment such as media over packet gateways, convergence switches, broadband access concentrators, wireless base stations, cable headend systems, edge routers, and remote access concentrators. Many embedded applications benefit from StarGen's distributed multi-processing features. StarGen's technology provides a dramatic increase in equipment performance, reliability, and Quality of Service while providing for the retention of existing standards-based hardware and software investment. StarGen is headquartered in Marlborough Massachusetts.
