StarGen Licenses Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) Access Technology from Agere Systems for Future StarFabric Devices
Marlborough, Mass. - December 3, 2001 - Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A) and StarGen, Inc. today announced a licensing agreement that builds upon the two companies' collaboration in switched time division multiplexing (TDM) interconnect technology. Agere Systems has licensed the TSI (Time Slot Switch) semiconductor technology found in Agere's Ambassador product line to StarGen. This technology will be used by StarGen to offer TDM-based StarFabric bridge products.
StarFabric, a 2.5Gbps serial switched interconnect, is ideally suited for communication and embedded applications. It provides scalability, high availability and true quality of service while maintaining 100% compatibility with existing hardware and software investments. StarFabric is an industry open technology with royalty free licenses available through membership in the StarFabric Trade Association.
"This agreement is the result of the strong working relationship we have developed with Agere over the last several years," said Tracy Richardson, co-founder and president of StarGen. "Licensing this technology will enable us to offer a complete silicon solution for cost effective, high performance switched interconnect applicable in a wide variety of communication access equipment like media servers, voice over broadband, multiservice access, and wireless infrastructure platforms."
"StarFabric is an excellent solution for voice-oriented platforms that need to have scalability and high availability characteristics," said Ed Nuber, marketing manager with Agere Systems. "StarGen will now be able to offer StarFabric-TDM solutions to the CompactPCI community which are compatible with our Ambassador Time Slot Interchanger product line."
