StarGen's StarFabric Switch to Debut at Embedded Systems Conference
First-Time Demonstration of Switch Component Will Show New Options for Building High-Speed, Scalable Systems for Next Generation Communication Equipment
Chicago, Ill. - July 9, 2001 - StarGen, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company, today announced that it will be demonstrating its SG 1010 StarFabric Switch at the Embedded Systems Conference in Chicago this week. StarGen's switch is a high-speed, cascadable, serial switch that provides 30 Gbps switching capacity with six ports and is a component of the StarFabric open switch fabric architecture. Developed to meet the needs of next-generation communication equipment developers, StarFabric is a high-speed, point-to-point switched backplane and chassis-to-chassis interconnect solution.
"Our mission from the start has been to establish StarGen's switch fabric technology as a widely adopted semiconductor solution for communications platforms," said Tracy Richardson, co-founder and president of StarGen. "We are pleased to announce this major milestone in bringing this key part of StarFabric technology to the market. We believe a universal switch fabric - one that is open and compatible with existing standards, is processor architecture-independent and supports all classes of traffic on both the control and data backplane - fills a critical need in the next generation communications market. The traction we are seeing in our customer base is a strong endorsement of this belief."
StarGen recently demonstrated prototypes of its StarFabric Bridge (SG 2010), which provides access to the switch fabric from existing PCI standard interconnects, at the Applied Computing Conference in Santa Clara, California in May. The SG 1010 and SG 2010 together offer communication equipment OEMs a new option for building high-speed, scalable and highly reliable systems and provide an easy migration path from current architectures. The devices can be combined in a wide variety of configurations to create cost-effective, small-scale systems to extremely large room scale equipment with 100s of end points.
The SG1010 StarFabric Switch is being demonstrated at the Embedded Systems Conference today in Elma Electronic's booth, #412. Elma Electronic is a member of the StarFabric Working Group, a group of communications industry companies exploring next generation technologies compatible with PCI and CompactPCI.
